Sun Moon Musings: On the Joys of Walking

My Baby Vivian walked to me today, seven steps, three more than yesterday.  I wonder at how she is never afraid or frustrated or reckless. She is only ever joyfully determined. She focuses her will, and every particle of her existence directs its energy down, past her plump little knees and through her perfect little feet to anchor her to the ground. A snap of magnetic attraction, the sway of a pine tree in a summer storm, and she is ready. Her every step is a contradiction. She smiles gleefully as she balances with outstretched arms. Her movements are somehow mechanical and magical. Just as her robotic foot comes crashing down, it sweeps up again, this time as graceful as a Pegasus in flight and she skims across the earth like a butterfly over grass. I scoop her into my arms. Her beaming and my ecstasy arrest all objectivity. I love her like a flower loves the sun, more than the moon loves the sea.
